The RSPCA is appealing for information after three snakes were found abandoned in two pillow cases in Potters Bar.
The animals were left outside a reptile shop in Barnet Road on June 14, with staff contacting the animal rescue charity. The snakes consisted of a carpet python, a reticulated python and a boa constrictor.
Following the call, they were collected by RSPCA inspector Mitchell Smith, who then took them to specialists who will take care of them.
Mitchell said: “Fortunately they’re all in good condition and healthy, but whatever situation someone finds themselves in, abandoning an animal like this is never okay. There is no guarantee that an abandoned animal will be found or not become hurt or lost.
“If someone is struggling to cope, there are lots of organisations who can help and we would urge anybody in a difficult situation to ask for help.
“If anyone has any information regarding the snakes we would ask them to contact me on the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
The RSPCA is presently concerned about the welfare of exotic pets whose owners may have been affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis, and have braced themselves for a rise in abandoned animals.
