Pupils at Arnett Hills JMI School in Rickmansworth have illustrated their school’s core values through creating three huge felt banners.
The children were excited to spend four days on the project, which was carried out with help from local organisation Artists in Schools. Each banner displays one of the three core values of integrity, community and empathy, whilst a fourth illustrates components of the school environment, curriculum and behaviours considered important by the students.
The pupils were shown how to prepare the strands of felt using metal brushes and lay them over the base layer. They then rubbed soap over the designs to bond the wool fibres, and finally rolled each banner flat.
Headteacher Holly Butcher said: “I couldn’t be more pleased with how the banners have turned out. The children are so proud and know exactly which part of each banner they have created.
“It was a wonderful project bringing the school community together, particularly as we had an army of volunteers from our families who came in to help and support the project!”
