‘AMAZING JOURNEY’: Ladies’ team becomes first in Ruislip club’s history to make FA Cup

A Ruislip-based football team played their first-ever FA Cup match recently, a milestone in the club’s history.

Until now, no team from Ruislip Rangers has made it to the tournament since the club’s founding in 1969.

On Sunday, September 10, the ladies’ team went up against Brentford Women in the FA Cup’s first qualifying round. It was a historical moment for the club despite it ending with a 4-0 loss.

It’s an outstanding achievement for the team, which was only created two seasons ago following an increase in demand. In that short amount of time, they’ve been promoted twice, and now play in the first division of Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League.

Speaking to Northwood & Ruislip News, manager Dave Holden said: “It was brilliant. Getting to the cup has been a personal ambition of mine.

“We’re a community club, so a sizeable portion of the team have been with us since they were young girls. In fact, four of the players in the Brentford squad we played against started off with us.

“It’s the first national competition that any team in the club has taken part in, and it’s been an amazing journey.”

The team also recently earned a boost with the news that their home games will now be played at the Middlesex Stadium, home of neighbouring team Hillingdon Borough FC, and a major upgrade in terms of facilities and attendance availability.
