AMAZING EFFORT: Bushey resident takes on virtual 874-mile challenge for two charities

Published on: 15th October 2020   |   By: Geraint Roberts   |   Category: Uncategorized

Bushey resident Kevin Hamilton is in the process of completing the virtual Land’s End to John O’Groats challenge, which is to run or walk 874 miles, to support the Silverbirch Dance Company (SDB) and UV Nightclub.

Kevin is a trustee for SDB and gets to see first-hand the impact they have and provide to their participants, but since lockdown, all fundraising activities were cancelled, making it very hard to continue.

Staff stepped up and volunteered to run Zoom sessions and online club nights, ensuring the members could still connect.

The challenge is to virtually complete a walk or run from Land’s End in Cornwall, to John O’Groats at the top of Scotland.

Kevin is eager to complete the challenge to support the charity and says the work they do gives people hope in their time of need.

He added: “The time the staff gave online was a lifeline to those people who struggled because of the isolation that lockdown resulted in for them, due to the many different needs they have.

“Classes started back up in September but due to the various and often complex medical needs of the participants, these continue to be on Zoom.

“The chance to share a laugh or dance with your friends is so very important to us all, and even more so for this group of people where some of whom still haven’t been allowed to leave the house since March. Funds are essential though to keep this going, so please donate whatever you can.”
