A posthumous video has been released in tribute to a legendary Croxley resident who worked at a local grocer for over 40 years.
Hazel Mary Willoughby worked at Grocer on the Green in Baldwins Lane, Croxley Green for around 43 years before she passed away suddenly on December 19, leaving members of the community devastated.
Hundreds of tributes from customers and friends were left on the Grocer on the Green’s Facebook post announcing the 87-year-old’s unfortunate death and now a professional video that was shot before she died has been uploaded to Vimeo.
The video was originally shot by Fat Chief Media as an advertisement for the grocer, but once Hazel passed away, it was edited as a tribute to her.
Grocer owner Paul Mckenary told CroxleyNews: “The video really sums up what a character she was. She was a real presence at this shop and was here almost every day up until the very end.
“A void’s definitely been left in the community over the last couple of months; I was speaking to a customer just today who said they miss her laugh and that aura she had. It’s amazing how many people left messages about her on the Facebook post – really long, detailed ones as well.
“She was just such a kind-hearted, hard-working lady who always knew the names of who she was serving and always made an effort.”
In the video, which has over 1,000 views at the time of writing, Hazel, who lived in a flat just above the grocer, casually discussed her history as the grocer’s employee.
She laughs as she says: “Everybody’s friendly and it’s lovely – I just love the shop life.”
