A group of walkers from Chorleywood u3a Striders ascended to new heights for a charity challenge.
Determined to do something special to celebrate Chorleywood u3a’s 15th anniversary, the Striders chose to take on the Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care. They raised an incredible £10,000 for the hospice service, which has helped a number of u3a members’ families through difficult times.
Nine walkers assembled at Princes Risborough early in the morning on Sunday, September 14.
Andrew York, group leader of Chorleywood u3a Striders, told CHORLEYWOODnews: “We went straight into a short steep climb up to Whiteleaf Hill, and we’re one peak down.
“A few ups and downs and then the second peak of Coombe Hill looms. Conscious that heavy rain was predicted later, we eschewed lunch and pushed on to Tring and finally the long gruelling walk up to Ivinghoe Beacon, and we’re there!
“The group then bowled down the hill to the bus. A great day and raising over £10,000 was incredible.”
