Hemel Ladies through to League Cup final

Published on: 10th April 2019   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Hemel Hempstead Town Ladies put 11 past Hitchin Belles to progress to the final of the League Cup.

On Sunday, March 24, they had a potentially tough game against Hitchin who are riding high at the top of the second division.

But it didn’t take long for the Hemel ladies to show they were up for the fight. In the fourth minute a good ball from Leah Haley to Bianca Hedgecock saw her slot home.

Hemel doubled their advantage on 10 minutes with a well-taken goal from Charlotte Ross. On 15 minutes the game was effectively over after a run and shot from Hemel’s top scorer Nat McConville made it three. The ladies were well in their stride now, all playing some great football as a team and in front of a large crowd.

In the 25 min Hedgecock hit a screamer to make it four, two minutes later Ross hit her second to make it 5-0. On 38 minutes Hedgecock completed her hat-trick to make it six at half time.

The second half was more of the same with Ross hitting her hat-trick in the 55th minute, Nat made it eight on the 73rd minute with an absolute peach.

A great dribble and shot from Charlene Turturici-Clarke looked like it could be goal of the season until it came crashing back of the bar, the fifth time the woodwork came in to play.

Good defence and goalkeeping Hemel kept a clean sheet. There was even still time for a second Bianca hat-trick giving her six and the team 11 to finish the match off.

The club would like to thank the under 8s and 10s mascots and to the big crowd who came and watched.

The final is on May 12 at 2pm at Kempston Rangers’ stadium against local rivals St Albans Ladies.

Team: Ruth Gorin, Steph Cripps, Callie Waters, Kayleigh Baker, Leah Haley, Nat McConville, Charlene Turturici-Clarke, Ella Baker, Charlotte Ross, Bianca Hedgecock, Lizzie Richardson, Amy Bentall, Amy Dunstan, Amy Shaw, Emma Lulham.
