Arsenal 2-0 Watford

Published on: 30th September 2018   |   By: Tim Green   |   Category: Watford FC

Watford manager Javi Gracia admitted he was frustrated as his side were beaten by Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium.

After a famous victory against Tottenham earlier this month, the Hornets had frustrated the home team for long periods of the game and were the better side in the opening 45 minutes. You would not have guessed they were the away side on the basis of the first half.

They had looked set for at least a point until Craig Cathcart put Arsenal ahead when he turned in Alex Iwobi’s low ball.

The Gunners doubled their lead just moments later when French hitman Alexandre Lacazette set up German Mesut Ozil to make the game safe.

The result was harsh on the visitors who matched Arsenal toe-to-toe and keeper Bernd Leno denied Watford captain Troy Deeney with a one handed save at the start of the second half before Issac Success fired just wide.

Had Watford taken one of their chances, the outcome could have been very different.

After the game, Javi Gracia praised his side and said he believed his players deserved much more from the counter.

He said: “In the last games, we had better performances than results. We deserved more and my feelings are good and today its important for me to see the supporters identify with the team and how the players are playing these games. I’m sure in the next games we will be able to get better results.”
