Hark! Christmas Carols in the Park

Published on: 19th December 2017   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Local residents braved the remaining snow and cold night air at Leavesden Country Park on Wednesday December 13 for some hearty Christmas carol singing and to raise funds to support OneYMCA’s work with those who are experiencing homelessness this Christmas. They were led by the Dacorum Community Choir whilst mulled wine, mince pies and hot chocolate were served to help keep all participants warm. The event, a joint venture between Three Rivers District Council and YMCA, was attended by over 200 people consisting mainly of local families. Many of the popular carols were sung by the gathered throng and interspersed with some excellent choir pieces that were well received. An ex-resident of YMCA also gave a few words on how the work of YMCA had helped her get her life back on track after she hit ‘rock-bottom’. The event proved to be a great success and over £350 was raised through a voluntary collection at the end. Cllr Martin Brooks, Vice Chairman, Three Rivers District Council said: “It was very gratifying to see how this event has grown over the years and to see all those who attended the event coming together to support the work of the YMCA in helping young people in the district. Leavesden Country Park has been the centre of people caring for others for over 147 years and it’s nice to see that culture of caring continuing today.” Guy Foxell, YMCA Chief Executive, said: “The local community is at its best when joining together – and the carol singing was no exception. We are grateful for everyone’s support and look forward to many more such gatherings as we improve the YMCA site over the coming months, in partnership with the Council.”
