85 YEARS: Watford charity celebrates anniversary with staff and volunteers

Published on: 22nd November 2024   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Citizens Advice Watford (CAW) celebrated 85 years of service in the town last month.

On Thursday, October 10, a large gathering of staff and volunteers, both past and present, were joined at Wellspring Church by organisations from across the county to celebrate the charity’s achievements over the last 85 years. Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor and chief executive of Watford Borough Council Donna Nolan were also both in attendance.

The charity’s mission of providing free, confidential advice and support to those in need has remained constant. Last year, their team of 20 staff and 40 volunteers helped around 700 people each month.

The gathering heard from one of the many volunteers who have been the heart of the charity since it began 85 years ago. David Fisher shared how he was motivated to give back to the town he grew up in, to speak up for people facing challenging problems alone and those struggling to access help and support.

Emma Burgham, chief officer at CAW, explained: “We’re driven both by our ambition to make things better for individuals and to change the underlying causes of problems.”

Donna added: “CAW has been a constant to our communities, helping them navigate the challenges they face, working collaboratively across the town with expert and holistic advice.

“I would like to thank the staff and volunteers for their professionalism, hard work, compassion and determination to help people address their issues and understand their rights.”
