Watford coach says hard work must continue

Published on: 20th October 2017   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Watford FC

Watford FC Head Coach Slavisa Jokanovic preferred to talk about the future rather than the excellent win at Cardiff, insisting that hard work continues to create a formidable outfit. “Of course I am pleased with the three points but already I am thinking ‘What’s going to happen in the next game?’. For me, that’s what is important now,” said the Serbian. Jokanovic wasn’t pulling any punches when he explained that the gap between one performance and another is too big for his liking. “One day we are very good, but another game we lost in our field, with the opponent deserving to take the points. “It’s important we are working like a team. I am focusing on making us a team and there is still a lot to do to make this exactly how we wish. “This is just one game. There is more work to come to create a top team. “We are all Championship people. No one can say he is of the Premier League because we fight here in the Championship; Championship players, Championship coach, Championship staff. “We know where we are trying to get to but between now and then, there is a lot of suffering that must be done. To do this suffering, to give everything together as a team is the best way to win. Asked about team changes from the Boxing Day Wolves defeat, Jokanovic showed his now customary humility and shrugged off any suggestions of it being a coaching masterstroke. “There is no magic formula here. I am not a magician because I changed six players and we won the match,” he affirmed. “These are not six players from nowhere. They are an important part of the squad and I should expect that they can do what they have done today. “One coach can make many changes and win – another not many and win two matches maybe, in a row. It does not make one right and one wrong. “The squad here is set so I can use different players because I believe that they can come in do what they did today. “This is when Watford should have an advantage. Many games is a different culture, as I said before, but we give this our full respect and do what must be done to try and get the points. “This was another step forward. Yes it is an important step, but I want to see now of the next match and the next match and the next match. “If we want to be near the top of this Championship, this is the challenge we must meet for every game.”
