100 NOT-OUT: Talented young Eastcote cricketer hits first century

A talented 10-year-old boy defied his age to hit a century for Eastcote Cricket Club.

Muhammad-Ali Anwar achieved the remarkable feat on May 22 while playing a year ahead of his age for Eastcote Under 11s against Uxbridge Under 11s.

Muhammad-Ali opened the batting for his team and ended up 100 not-out to help his team to victory.

He entered the last over of the match on 94 runs before reaching the century mark, much to the delight of his family who were watching.

That includes his father, Omar, who currently plays for Eastcote first team and who himself hit a century at a young age.

Omar told PINNERnews: “I am incredibly proud of him.

“He also beat me by two years as I scored my first hundred at 12 years old.

“In those days, I also played cricket for Eastcote Cricket Club as a colt. I joined Eastcote at eight years old so everyone at the club was super excited to watch Muhammad-Ali score his first hundred for the club and follow in my footsteps – although it means the pressure is on me to beat his score.

“It’s early but Muhammad-Ali is showing great signs to develop into a fine cricketer, with hopes of playing for England one day.

“With my cricketing background, we as a family love cricket and Muhammad-Ali and his brothers are all naturally gifted cricketers.”

Muhammad-Ali also plays football for Ruislip Rangers Under 11 Clarets and for Watford FC Player Development Centre as a goalkeeper.
