YOUTH FOR NATURE: Northwood gap year student explores the Highlands with charity grant

Published on: 22nd October 2022   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Northwood gap year student recently completed a six-week adventure via bike to explore the biodiversity around the Scottish Highlands.

Jane Williamson, 19, was inspired to take on the journey after completing a school project on how nature underpins human health. As a member of the environmental campaign group UK Youth for Nature, it is a cause very close to her heart.

Jane’s adventure was funded by the John Muir Trust, a leading UK charity focused on protecting wild places, through their Des Rubens and Bill Wallace grant.

The trip was designed to have as minimal environmental impact as possible, and the intrepid explorer now hopes to turn her experiences into a book, designed to inspire others to make daily lifestyle changes to fight climate change and the destruction of ecosystems.

Jenny Seaman of the John Muir Trust said: “The grant panel was delighted to be able to support Jane on her solo adventure around the Scottish Highlands, highlighting the importance of wild places.”
