Browns in Bushey has had a refresh and it shows. The front of the restaurant looks brighter and more modern, and that carries through inside too. It still feels like the brasserie it has always been, comfortable and relaxed, but there is a freshness to it now that was not there before.

The menu sticks to what Browns does best. Starters include baked scallops, steak tartare and prawn cocktail, with a beetroot and apple tartare if you want something lighter. Mains cover a lot of ground: braised blade of beef, pulled lamb shepherd’s pie and fish and chips sit alongside steaks including sirloin, ribeye and chateaubriand.
There is something for most people, which is clearly the intention. Desserts are the classics: sticky toffee pudding, tiramisu and chocolate brownie.

The best part of the evening was the service. Our server Natasha was brilliant throughout. She was friendly, attentive and knew when to check in and when to leave us to it. It made a real difference to the meal.
Browns is not trying to do anything too clever and it does not need to. The refresh has made it a nicer place to be, the menu gives you plenty to choose from and the service is genuinely good.
Worth a visit.
