A bus service which was on the brink of being cancelled has now been saved.
Back in April, it was announced that the 328 bus, which shuttles residents between Abbots Langley and Mount Vernon Hospital, would be withdrawn on June 2, causing consternation among residents. When Arriva confirmed its intentions to cease the service, Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) undertook a tender process to find another operator.
It has now been announced that Red Rose Travel is willing to take on the service as a de-minimis contract. This means that HCC will be contributing £280,000 a year to the service.
A temporary timetable will be put in place for the first four to six weeks of operation, which will be an hourly service throughout. Speaking to ABBOTSnews, councillor Asif Khan,
Labour spokesperson for Highways Transport, said:
“I am delighted to confirm that the bus service will continue, albeit in a modified form. This success highlights the significance of community engagement and cooperation in meeting the needs
of the public. I am overjoyed that our united efforts have resulted in keeping our community well connected and supported.”
