Wonderful Wendy tackles London Marathon

Published on: 26th April 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

The chief executive of a charity for the homeless in Hemel Hempstead took part in her first ever London Marathon last weekend.

Dacorum Emergency Night Shelter (DENS) Chief Executive, Wendy Lewington finished the event in a time of 5 hours 41 minutes.

Wendy was inspired to take part in the event through her day to day work with DENS services and her understanding of the needs of those in the local area facing poverty and homelessness.

She said: “Running the marathon was a huge challenge, especially as the conditions yesterday were so warm. It’s taken over six months of training four to five times a week to prepare but the actual day was even tougher than I expected.

“Knowing that I was raising money for those people in our local community who really need help to rebuild their lives really spurred me on when I thought I had nothing left at about 18 miles. Thank you to everyone who supported me on the day and with sponsorship, your help is really appreciated!’
