WILDLIFE RESCUE: Hospital raises awareness of litter in Croxley after fox becomes stuck in bottle

Published on: 5th August 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A fox that was found with a plastic bottle stuck on her head has been released back into the wild after being treated at Pumpkin’s Wildlife Hospital near Croxley.

Volunteers at the centre tried to catch the fox, fondly named Pepsi-Lou, on numerous occasions after she was first spotted in Carpenders Park.

According to trustee Sarah Arnold, Pepsi-Lou had had a plastic bottle stuck to her head for at least a week. Underneath, the fox had developed an “awful injury” and had become plagued by maggots.

Speaking to Croxley News, Sarah said: “There is such a huge pile of rubbish and mess in the wood at Carpenders Park, which is her habitat. We want to highlight the dangers of littering and encourage people not to do this.”

After a week of being unable to eat or drink, Pepsi-Lou was tracked down by volunteers who managed to remove the bottle. The fox was then treated by vet and hospital founder Ana, before being released back into the wild on Tuesday, July 23.
