St Albans Cricket Club (SACC) have secured their spot in the Herts County T20 final, after a momentous win against the reigning champions.
SACC arrived at David Lawrence Memorial Ground in Potters Bar on May 12, having been gifted a bye in the first round of the Herts T20 competition due to a no-show by Welwyn Garden City Cricket Club. This put them straight into the group final where they met their hosts, reigning Herts Premier League Champions Potters Bar Cricket Club (PBCC).
The Saints ripped through the PBCC top order with a masterclass of bowling, before “mopping up” the tail end.
With 64 runs needed to secure their final spot, SACC’s Maicol Javed set the tone by smashing his first ball into the adjoining tennis club. The team followed suit with more fine performances.
The team beat the reigning champions with six overs still in hand.
A spokesperson for the club told STALBANSnews: “Stunned silence met the delighted Saints as they left the field, many in shock at what they had just witnessed. But this is an indication of what this team is capable of, having comprehensively beaten the best side in the county!”
The Saints will now play against Harpenden Cricket Club in the final on June 16.
