Residents questioned the logic of Herts County Council as it repositioned a lamp column in Garston, which had come down, right up against a tree.
On Friday, July 10, two Kingswood residents reported to Garston county councillor Tim Williams that a lamp column in Perivale Gardens was laying on the ground.
County council operatives returned to reinstall the light column, but rather than doing so in the original location they installed it against an evergreen tree coming from a private property.
The two residents were worried that the lamp being in the midst of the tree will not throw out much light.
Cllr Tim Williams, speaking about the issue said: “Upon visiting the site I couldn’t believe that the operatives could have possibly thought that this was a good location for a streetlight.
“Operatives returned in order to move again the light column, their common-sense proposal was to move it one metre along, still basically obscured by the tree – hence I again questioned the sense of this.
“Reviewed again by Ringway and Herts CC they have agreed to add a bracket on to the lamp column so that it will protrude and will throw its light on to the footway/highway.”
