The Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society (ALGSS) has welcomed back a beloved member following her year-long absence as she battled cancer.
In November 2020, long-standing member and ex-chairman of ALGSS Kathy Bunting was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following a year of treatment, she was thankfully given the all-clear and since then has made it her mission to raise awareness of breast cancer and raise funds for charity.
Earlier this year, she took part in a 100km trek along the Pembrokeshire coast, which was organised by breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!. The trek was led by notable faces including author Giovanna Fletcher, influencer Megan Jayne Crabbe and Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden.
Kathy raised more than £5,000 and made lifelong friends during the experience.
She will return to the stage in ALGSS’s next production, Iolanthe, which will be performed at Watford Palace Theatre from February 2-4. Performances take place at 7.30pm each evening, plus there will be a 2.30pm matinee performance on Saturday, February 4.
A spokesperson for ALGSS said: “We are delighted to welcome back Kathy for her first full production since her recovery and to have cast her in the title role, Iolanthe. No ALGSS production is quite the same without Kathy’s exuberance and good nature.
“This will be our eighth production of Iolanthe since ALGSS was formed in 1950 and we are thrilled to welcome back director Linda Dyne and musical director Peter Jones.”
Tickets are available here.
ALGSS has performed Gilbert and Sullivan operas annually since its foundation in September 1950. Find out more about the group at algss.org.uk
