Jealous Canditta Howe narrowly escaped going to jail on Friday for an attack on a love rival.

Howe, 35, had asked the woman to meet her at her home in Watford after learning that she had slept with a man she had been in a relationship with.

Prosecutor Nicola Roberson told St Albans crown court: “She went to the defendant’s front door. The defendant was behind her and the victim said: ‘All right?'”

Howe replied: ‘Nah. I am p……. ‘

Mr Judge said: “She punched her to the left and then the right side of the face. She continued to punch her – around eleven times. She pulled her head down by her hair and punched her.

“The defendant pulled her to the floor and kicked her in the mouth, face, head and back and was punched a few more times.” She suffered two black eyes and marks on her face.

Howe appeared for sentence, having been convicted of causing actual bodily harm on November 28 2017 by magistrates. She was of previous good character.

Defending, Jacob Gifford Head said: “She is 35 and has never troubled the court before.

“It was a one-off incident of violence which is not likely to be repeated.”

He asked for her to receive a suspended sentence.

Judge Michael Kay QC agreed, saying he was only just persuaded not to send her to prison.

He told her: “Instead of talking, you attacked her. It was a thuggish violent attack.

“You suddenly unleashed all this violence. There was an element of jealously or anger.”

He passed a 12-month sentence suspended for two years. Howe must attend a rehabilitation activity requirement for 15 days and abide by an electronically-monitored curfew for six months between 7pm and 7am.

A restraining order also banned Howe from contacting the victim for five years.
