Watford Mayor reopens newly restored ‘Rustic’ bridge in Cassiobury Park

Watford’s Elected Mayor Peter Taylor reopened Cassiobury Park’s Rustic Bridge last week (June 14).

The bridge, located over the River Gade, is part of a £4.95million Heritage Lottery-funded Cassiobury Restoration Project which has focused on improving the park’s facilities.

Other projects include Watford’s 104-year-old bandstand, its paddling pools and the construction of a new hub building.

The work was completed by Watford Borough Council.

Based on an old design, the balustrade on the bridge – located near the Langley Way entrance – is now more in keeping with the heritage of the park. The carved handrail that it replaces will be reused in other projects in the park.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “This fantastic restoration project has helped make sure that we preserve the park’s history.

“The work has made a real difference in improving the facilities and I would like to thank all those who made this happen, including the Heritage Lottery for all their support.

“The bridge looks wonderful and I am sure that it will be enjoyed by many, many people for years to come.”
