X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson will further spread the community buzz kicked off by Watford FC’s Premier League victory at the free Big Summer Sounds music festival on Sunday. The jazz and folk music event will run from 1pm to 9.30pm on The Parade by the pond, beginning the new series of Big Events. During Watford FC’s recent homecoming parade in Cassiobury Park, the team’s players spoke about how good they expect the town centre’s first Big Summer Sounds to be. Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes said: “Come to the Big Summer Sounds – there’s going to be great music over there.” Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “One of my priorities is reclaiming our town centre for everyone. Big Summer Sounds will bring people in from our whole community to use our revamped events space by the pond and show that the town centre is for everyone to enjoy. This is the second large community event we’ve had in Watford in just two weeks, and there’s a real buzz around town.” Joining headline act Rebecca Ferguson are many different talented performers, including yellow-suited Britain’s Got Talent boogiers, The Jive Aces. Jazz favourites Ronnie Scott’s All Stars will also take to the stage, as will Watford Folk Club and young band Midnight Trio, who attend West Herts College. The next event in the Watford Big Events series will be The Big Festival, taking place from June 19 – July 5. This summer local will meet global as two of Watford’s biggest arts festivals, Watford Live and Imagine Watford, come together alongside a weekend offering from Watford Colosseum for 17 days of extraordinary live experiences. The Big Events series, now continuing into its second year, aims to maximise the use of the transformed Parade event spaces created to make the town centre better for businesses, residents and visitors.
