Competitors from Watford travelled to Hastings, Sussex to compete in the annual International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) Amateur European Championships.

The championships were attended by gyms from across the UK and Europe, all attempting to take home European Gold.

Emilia Azarova, 11 of Croxley Danes School, competed against an English opponent in the final, successfully winning every round on the judge’s scorecards and becoming the IKF -50kg European Champion, continuing her success from 2018.

Jude Smith, 14 of Npower Hill School competing in his first tournament with Lions Watford, having started training in late 2017, fought well to get to the finals, where he met a Belgian opponent, putting on an outstanding performance to take the IKF -60kg European Title, whilst maintaining his unbeaten record.

Also competing at the tournament from Watford were Frank Bates (19), who took second place and Ashley Baldwin (21) who got to the quarterfinals of the -65kg and -75kg categories respectively. All four competitors train and compete out of Lions Watford, Greenhill Crescent.

Head Coach Sally Lewis said: “We are really proud of what the fighters have achieved, they all train hard and with a desire to improve. They are all still young and have great futures ahead of them in our sport”.

Lions Watford was established in 2010 and has a great track record of winning with both juniors and adults. For more information on Lions Watford, contact 07814-708-411.
