A year on from the formation of a group dedicated to making the Northwood Recreation Ground usable in the winter season, residents are still deeply unhappy about its current state.
Ben Rawson-Jones, the founder of the Friends of Northwood Recreation Ground group said: “It’s very sad and unacceptable that our recreation ground continues to be largely unfit for recreation outside of the summer months.
“After five years of resident complaints about the lack of maintenance on existing drainage ditches, which urgently need digging out to restore their original depth and capture water again, we urge Hillingdon Council to please tackle this.
“Being able to exercise in a safe space is so important for our mental and physical health.”
Many people have reported slipping and falling when attempting to use the ground for recreational purposes, and there have even been reports that Northwood FC’s junior matches have had to be moved elsewhere due to the ground being unusable.
Mr Rawson-Jones told NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews that the fact that local kids are having to be driven to other grounds miles away to play football goes against the ‘green’ policy for decarbonising local travel currently set out by Hillingdon Council (who are in charge of the ground’s maintenance).
