Voters in Stanmore overwhelmingly vote pro-Remain in European elections

The European Parliamentary election result in Stanmore, and Harrow saw a huge victory for pro-Remain and pro-People’s-Vote voters according to local anti-Brexit campaigners.

In total, 62.3 per cent of local voters in Stanmore and the rest of the borough voted for fully or substantially pro-People’s-Vote and pro-Remain parties.

The anti-People’s-Vote parties – all of which are prepared to countenance a ‘no-deal’ Brexit – attracted only 35.8 per cent of Harrow votes.

The result suggests a huge swing in Stanmore and elsewhere in the borough in favour of remaining in the European Union – and local campaigners are now planning to further expand their campaign to help stop Britain going over the Brexit precipice.

The Labour still hold the biggest share in Harrow at 25.2 per cent, closely followed by the Liberal Democrats (21.8) and The Brexit Party (18.5).

At the referendum in 2016, 54.6 per cent of Harrow borough voters supported Remain.

But last month’s election results show that pro-Remain and pro-People’s-Vote support has risen locally by almost eight percentage points.

Of equal importance, 75 per cent of the London Region members of the European Parliament (MEPs) elected on May 23 by Harrow and other London Region voters are staunchly pro-Remain and pro-People’s-Vote.

What’s more, despite a national media concentration on Brexit Party successes outside London, the story nationwide is, in fact, a huge pro-Remain pro-People’s-Vote victory.

What’s more, 51.4% of the newly elected MEPs across Britain are firmly pro-Remain and pro-People’s-Vote, as against just 47.1%, who are firmly anti-People’s-Vote and pro-Brexit.

David Keys, Harrow and Hillingdon European Movement secretary, said: “As the appalling economic and dire political and international security implications of Brexit become increasingly clear, the people of Stanmore have moved ever more decisively in a Remain direction.

“Our local campaign against Brexit will now be further expanded – so anybody who would like to help with leafleting, street stalls, social media, artwork production or in any other way, please get in touch via our email harrowandhillingdon@europeanmovement.co.uk
