The body of a frozen puppy has been found at the entrance to a field off Sandridgebury Lane, close to a railway bridge.
The puppy, suspected to be around 10-12 weeks old and likely a lurcher-type breed, showed signs of fur loss and malnutrition. The RSPCA believe the puppy had died approximately two days before the body was found.
The dog was not microchipped so it has not been possible to trace the owner, while vets have been unable to determine the sex of the dog.
The RSPCA have launched an appeal, urging anyone with information to contact their inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018
RSPCA inspector Nicole Smith said: “It’s incredibly sad to consider the possibility that this puppy might have been alive when they were dumped in the field in the cold, as their little body was found curled up and covered in frost.
“We’re pleading with people not to abandon animals and encourage anyone who is struggling to seek help. We’ve recently launched a dedicated cost of living hub to help outline and signpost the help out there for owners.”
