‘VERY PROUD’: Chorleywood artist’s work goes on display in new museum exhibition

Published on: 16th November 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Chorleywood artist inspired by the modernist architecture in a historic local area is having her work displayed at Amersham Museum.

Fiona Ryan-Watson’s artwork, called Amersham Rising, celebrates the Sun Houses designed by Connell and Ward Architects in the 1930s. Her painting is now on display at the museum’s Land Marks exhibition, which celebrates artists’ responses to the inspiring Chilterns countryside.

Speaking to Chorleywood News, Fiona said: “I chose the modern architecture of Amersham as my inspiration as a contrast to the older historic architecture for which Amersham is more widely known. My paintings present a very different view of Amersham.

“I’m very proud to have my work on display at the museum. It’s always great to meet people and hear their response to my work. We’ve had some really interesting conversations.”

Fiona paints regularly with other local artists at Chorleywood Community Arts Centre, Rickmansworth and District Art Society, and Beechwood Artists in Amersham. She is also a member of the Chiltern Makers’ Club, a monthly networking event for professional makers at Amersham Museum.

The Land Marks exhibition at Amersham Museum runs until Sunday, December 14.
