Contractors working for Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) dug up a section of Chorleywood Common as part of works for a new bus stop.
However, according to Chorleywood Parish Council (CPC), the bus for this stop no longer travels in this direction.
CPC stated that the works on the Common along Common Road were “unauthorised” and were “due to an administrative oversight”.
They added: “This has resulted in an unsightly area which will take some time for plants and grass to recolonise.
“If you see any works on the Common, please do let us know by telephoning or emailing the office.”
A spokesperson for HCC said: “As part of our bus stop improvement plan, we will be upgrading the bus stop opposite Chorleywood Common and have been liaising with the parish council and local councillor. We are aware that some works were recently carried out on Chorleywood Common in error. Steps were promptly taken to restore the area to its original condition, and additional measures have been put in place to help prevent a recurrence. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
