A guidebook for children with type 1 diabetes features Rickmansworth’s resident ice-skating queen, Blu-Belle Johnson.
When she’s not winning gold medals at tournaments across the country, 10-year-old Blu-Belle doubles up as an ambassador for type 1 diabetes. Diagnosed with the condition in 2020, Blu-Belle hasn’t let diabetes get in the way of her athletic prowess.
Now coached by Dancing on Ice’s Hamish Gaman, she is hoping to qualify for the British national team.
According to her mother, Rebeccah, Blu-Belle wanted to help other children build their confidence. It was with this goal in mind that Blu-Belle got in contact with Julien Thiebaut, one of the authors of #Type1dDoesntStopUs.
The book, which will be stocked by schools and hospitals across the country, aims to reassure young people getting used to life with type 1 diabetes. As well as featuring ‘T1D warriors’ like Blu-Belle, it offers top tips and signposts readers towards useful resources.
#Type1dDoesntStopUs is available on Amazon and from bookshops.
