A café in Rickmansworth has received a prestigious three star award in recognition of its commitment to sustainability. Café in the Park, which is located on Frogmoor Lane, was given the highest possible award by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA). Carly Trisk-Grove, owner of the café, said: “Receiving the three star award is great recognition of the work we do to provide a more sustainable environment for our customers and the community. “We source everything we can locally, we pay all our staff the living wage, and do a lot of work in the community, providing adults with learning difficulties the opportunity to volunteer with us.” Carly explained that the SRA uses three main criteria to judge sustainability: society, sourcing and environment. These criteria cover such areas as recycling, food waste, food sourcing (local, fair trade etc.), energy efficiency, water saving, community engagement and responsible marketing. The SRA encourages restaurants to get Sustainability rated and show that they’re walking the walk as well as talking the talk. Diners can use the ratings to identify restaurants that are going the extra mile to be more sustainable – and are ready to be transparent about their results. Picture courtesy of Carly Trisk-Grove
