The Hemel Hempstead Yarn Bomb Club was awarded £200 from the rotary club last month, which will cover their rent for the next three months.
Yarn bombing is a type of street art where crafters create displays using knitted or crocheted yarn for public places. The group has made various postbox toppers across the town which have raised money for various charities.
The cheque was presented at Leverstock Green Cricket Club by the Mayor of Dacorum councillor John Birnie and Sir Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, on April 12.
Club member Christine Allsopp said: “Our group is pretty much self-sufficient. Our aim is to make people smile and make Dacorum a brighter place, and while doing thus, raising awareness and funds for local charities.
“Last year, we had to start renting a garage to store our toppers and donations to the group go towards our garage cost. We were so pleased as it will cover our rent for more than three months.”
The group’s current displays include a spring display raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and the coronation display for International Nurse Day.
