Sarratt Community Post Office Stores has been chosen by a national rural advocacy group as among the best village shops in the region.
In the Countryside Alliance’s annual awards, in which nominees are suggested by the public, the beloved local shop has been named as one of the finalists in the East of England category.
Speaking to CROXLEYnews, Jane Watson, the postmaster for the shop, said: “It is lovely to be recognised; it feels very good.”
When asked why she thought the shop had been shortlisted for the prize, she added: “We stock good produce, our customers are like another family to us, and we treat people how we would like to be treated ourselves.”
The regional winners will be announced later this month, followed by the national winners in May.
The Sarratt store’s competition in the East of England category includes Carlton Village Shop and Post Office in Bedfordshire, Elton Village Store in Cambridgeshire, Orford General Store in Suffolk, and Otley Village Store and Post Office in Suffolk.
