A Freedom of Information request submitted by WATFORDnews has revealed the amount of revenue generated from parking charge notices (PCN) at Watford General Hospital.
The data, provided by the West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, reveals that a total of 3,233 PCNs were issued at the hospital in 2024, up from 1,032 in 2023.
The total revenue generated from these PCNs in the 2024/25 financial year was £18,702. This was a significant increase from the revenue generated in 2023/24, which stood at £1,008.
The trust clarified that the figures for 2023 cover only part of the year, as following the appointment of a new parking contractor, initially only warning notices were issued.
The trust added that it does not make any profit from parking charges and income contributes to the overall cost of providing parking.
Discounted parking is available to long-term patients, and the trust also refunds travel costs including parking to eligible patients.
The trust has been contacted for comment.
