Watford mayor Dorothy Thornhill says the announcement that Transport for London (TfL) will return unspent money from the MLX to funding partners including Herts County Council and Watford Borough Council is not good enough.
After London mayor Sadiq Khan confirmed TFL would not deliver the project last month, TfL have today announced they would be returning the funding for the scheme today.
Dorothy Thornhill said: “This just simply isn’t good enough from TfL and the Mayor of London. As I and others stated in our letter to the Mayor last month, it is not just the unspent funds that we are looking to be returned but all money sunk into this project with good intentions by Watford Borough Council and Herts County Council.
“This includes a train that is already in use on the Metropolitan Line. Watford has been badly let down by the false promises of TfL and the London Mayor when it comes to the Metropolitan Line Extension. The town deserves better than this.”
