Chorleywood residents are continuing to share their anger and frustration over poor driving and speeding on Heronsgate Road.
Since last month’s CHORLEYWOODnews report about the issues on the road, several more residents have come forward to share their story of more than 15 years of campaigning for change.
A resident explained: “The former Lib Dem councillor Martin Trevett was the first supporter of this cause, helping to attain the 20mph limit in 2011.
“Councillor Phil Williams has also been a mainstay, encouraging a signed petition from the residents in 2020, demanding traffic calming and enforcement of the 20mph speed limit.
“Recently, councillor Louise Price has added her support, with PCSO Alan Waller of Herts Police now awaiting the removal of the roadworks on Heronsgate Road, so that he can employ a Speed Detection Device.”
Councillor Ciaran Reed has shared flyers with residents stating that he would be working on safety improvements for Heronsgate Road.
The resident continued: “The Stag Lane sign has been reinstated after it was knocked down by a driver. A couple of potholes have been repaired too. But this is only the start of what is required.”
She also explained that three traffic surveys have been undertaken on the road. The first was during the refurbishment of the play area, so sand blocked the road. During the second, the road was closed for access. The final one, in November 2023, was placed in a different location to the one agreed by cllr Williams, a Herts Highways Traffic representative, and the residents. Although being placed on a quieter part of the road, 500 of the 2,000 to 3,000 vehicles who use the road daily were caught speeding.
The resident said: “Imagine what the results would have been if the equipment had been placed correctly halfway along the road as agreed!”
Cllr Reed and cllr Williams have been contacted for comment.
