TAKING THE PLUNGE: Three midwives at Watford General Hospital to skydive for charity Raise

Three midwives at Watford General Hospital (WGH) are set to do a skydive to raise money for West Hertfordshire NHS Hospitals charity Raise.

Tasha Parsons, 23, from Garston; Ellie Kinson, 24, from Saint Albans and Isabella Luxton, 22, from London will be jumping off a plane on April 10, if the coronavirus restrictions in place allow it.

Speaking to GarstonNews, Ellie said: “The NHS has gone the extra mile throughout the pandemic, a lot of staff having to deal with personal situations, extra hours, emotional difficulties, work related pressures, managing a new way of working with PPE and much more.

“We thought the least we could do was give something back, and while doing this, take it to the extreme of doing a skydive. Going up together in a plane, 15,000ft in the air and throwing ourselves out of it with the funds donated go directly to the charity.”

The three colleagues and friends have asked Raise charity to localise their fundraising to the hospital they work at and especially the maternity unit.

Ellie added: “Every year we look after many women in the pregnancy journeys, we wanted the funds to not only carry on raising the staff morale but to also help continue providing high-quality maternity care for women during their pregnancy, labour and after the birth of their baby.”

Tasha, Ellie and Isabella have carried out various fun games to raise money on social media.

They also have a big raffle where local businesses donated prizes to win, from a bungee jump to London photo studios.

“I have done a charity skydive before and it is a huge achievement,” said Tasha.

Isabella instead added: “It’s amazing knowing the money is going to such a good charity, we appreciate all the generosity.”
