Carpenders Park Care Home, near Watford, opened its doors – and its gardens – to more than 70 guests and furry friends for its first-ever Dog Show event on Saturday, September 6.

Bringing together residents, families, staff and members of the local community, the event was a heart-warming celebration of companionship, community spirit, and, of course, adorable dogs. With tails wagging and smiles all around, the event proved to be a fantastic success for everyone involved.

Interim home manager Julie Wicks said: “The event highlighted a wonderful variety of stalls from local businesses, each adding their unique touch to the day.

“Maggie from Bootifulthings.co.uk displayed her beautifully hand-crafted gifts, while the team from Boots and Bark showcased their dog walking and training services. Sam Howard impressed visitors with perfectly made leather dog collars, and Sally from the Cats Protection League, along with her enthusiastic team, were there to help raise awareness and share their passion for animal welfare.”

Residents were delighted to take part in judging the canine contestants, enjoying front-row seats to the day’s festivities.

Peggy, aged 90, commented on the event: “I thought I was in heaven – I didn’t know which dog to cuddle first!”

Attendees praised both the event and the picturesque setting of the care home. Many expressed excitement about the upcoming events, especially the highly anticipated Summer Fete.

“This was such a well-run, lovely event – we can’t wait to come back,” one guest shared.

Julie added: “The dog show also raised £48 which will be put towards an extra special activity for our residents.”

Customer relations manager Noel Maher said: “Families, residents and guests all agreed: this event was a wonderful idea, and the overwhelming support and smiling faces have inspired us to plan even more community events in the future. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported us on the day.”
