A Rickmansworth woman and her friend will be running a half-marathon in Weston-Super-Mare later this March for a cause very close to her heart.
Lucy Fagiolo and her friend Helen Reardon will be taking part in the Weston Super Half, a 21K race around Weston-Super-Mare and through the surrounding Somerset villages before finishing a quarter mile out to sea on Weston’s Grand Pier.
41-year-old Lucy will be raising money for the Chorleywood-based charity Mission EmployAble, which provides work experience and internships for young adults with learning disabilities. This is a cause close to her heart, as someone who has a younger sister with a learning disability, as does Helen.
Lucy, who lives in her Rickmansworth home with her husband Martin and nine-year-old son Jayden, has been training for the race since the beginning of the year. Speaking about her chosen charity, she said:
“The supported internships provided by Mission EmployAble are amazing.
“There was nothing like this when I was young, so I think it’s wonderful that young people with a learning disability, who might otherwise be unemployed and stuck at home can be trained for paid employment, make friends and find a fulfilling role in their communities.
“I hope readers will support the Mission EmployAble’s work by donating to my charity by making a donation to my Peoples Fundraising page.”
