Book enthusiasts across the nation joined together to celebrate the inaugural Michael Rosen Day last month.
The event, which will take place every year, was launched on Tuesday, November 12, to mark 50 years since the Pinner poet, author and national treasure’s first book was published.
Ahead of the day, Michael launched a manifesto for reading to encourage children to read more through books about language, thoughts, feelings, and celebration.
Run in partnership with literacy charity Read for Good, multi-award-winning teacher turned rapper and viral social media sensation Jacob Mitchell, aka MC Grammar, hosted a free-to-attend virtual event.
The event was a huge success and was broadcast to more than 80,000 viewers. Schools, libraries and bookshops across the country ran events and created book displays using free resources created for the day and accessible via the Michael Rosen Day website.
Michael said: “I hope this day can be a day when we can celebrate any way in which we can put books into children’s hands!”
This comes after a fantastic year for the author, having released new books and poetry collections including Getting Better and Michael Rosen’s Totally True (and Totally Silly) Bedtime Stories.
