This month, GARSTONnews caught up with Garston Bowls Club (GBC) ahead of the start of the new season.
The 2025 season opened at Lea Farm Recreation Ground on Saturday, April 26, with GBC focusing on fulfilling their Watford & District League fixtures as well as club team national and county competitions.
GBC marketing officer Glenn Williams said: “The club is feeling really positive about the upcoming season. We’ve had several new members join in the last three seasons and are looking forward to recruiting some more.
“We’ve also had some competitive players join from other clubs, so our team events look stronger than ever!”
GBC hope to build on last season’s successes, having retained the Hertfordshire Club Championship for a fourth year in a row, as well as several county victories including Men’s Fours, Men’s O55s Fours, U25 Singles and U25 Pairs.
Glenn continued: “Do drop in of an evening or afternoon when the club is open. We are friendly and always looking to recruit new players.
“The u3a meet every Monday afternoon, and the club will be open most evenings from 5.30pm till dark throughout May, June and July which are the busiest months of the summer.”
The club will be participating in the Bowls England Bowls Big Weekend on Monday, May 26, which will see hundreds of clubs across the country open their doors to get new people interested in the sport.
