A golf club in Bovingdon is “incredibly grateful” for the community’s support following a fire last month.
Golfers had to get to safety after the greenkeeper’s shed at Little Hay Golf Complex caught alight on Monday, August 5. Smoke could be seen billowing across the course, located on Box Lane.
Five fire engines were called to tackle the blaze in the large outbuilding, with the fire crew working until 8.30pm to make the area safe.
The club has since become fully operational again after the accidental fire, which was sparked by a mechanical fault in a grass cutting machine.
Matt Schofield, from Little Hay Golf Complex, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support.
“Thankfully, no one was injured during the fire, and our team worked tirelessly to minimise the disruption to our members and visitors.”
He also credited the “strong bonds” of the golfing community for the amazing teamwork by members, club committees and neighbouring golf clubs in coming together to help following the incident.
Other golf clubs helped to minimise disruption for players by providing golf equipment and supplies.
