Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) has been told it “shouldn’t wait a week” to allow commuters to park in an under-utilised car park in Chorleywood.
Transport for London announced in October that it would increase parking charges at Chorleywood station to £8 a day. Members of the community argued that this would lead to increased parking on nearby residential roads.
However, TRDC’s own Ferry car park – where there is a time limit for parking of four hours – sits almost empty most days.
In December, Chorleywood Conservative councillors Oliver Cooper and Philip Hearn proposed a scheme to allow commuters to use the Ferry car park for £4 a day. Despite Lib Dem councillors initially refusing to back the scheme, it is alleged that the plans will go forward in the summer.
Cllr Cooper told CHORLEYWOODnews: “This is a total no-brainer and should have been done already, not only in the summer or autumn. Three Rivers has to learn to act faster than this and stop dawdling.”
TRDC has been contacted for comment.
