SPEED FOR SAIF: Pinner community rallies after boy, five, loses leg to cancer

Published on: 9th May 2022   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Pinner community has rallied to raise almost £70,000 to fund a bionic leg for a five-year-old from the town.

Saif Muburak was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, osteosarcoma in December last year and after rounds of chemotherapy doctors decided the best option was to amputate his leg.

Now a fundraiser has been sent up to raise the £120,000 needed for a bionic leg to give Saif the best quality of life as possible.

Speaking to PinnerNews, Imran Khan who set up the fundraiser, said that after Saif received his diagnosis they couldn’t sit back and do nothing.

He said: “We are very close friends with Romana [Saif’s mum] and her husband so have known Saif basically all his life.

“We want to relieve some of the stress on the family and do what we can to improve his quality of life so he has something to look forward to.”

Imran said he decided to set up the fundraising page after discussing the costs of prosthetics with Saif’s father Shane.

He said: “The GoFundMe page has kicked off, I wasn’t expecting it, we have managed to raise nearly £70,000 in two weeks.

“It’s nice to show Saif that all isn’t lost and people are rooting for him. To us he’s like a family member and the community in Pinner is also tight and people have been rooting for him and wanting to help.

“It gives everyone an outlet to be part of his journey.”

So far the GoFundMe page has raised £67,525 with donations and messages of support added to the page daily.
