SPECIAL CELEBRATION: Pinner community gathers to celebrate Jewish festival of Chanukah

Published on: 19th December 2021   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Pinner’s first ever public menorah lighting which marked the 5th night of the Jewish festival of Chanukah, took place on Thursday, December 2, on the corner of Bridge Street and Love Lane.

It featured a large public menorah, dazzling fire and juggling show, the traditional jam doughnuts and goodie bags for kids.

Rabbi Shaya Green, of Pinner Chabad, said: “Chanukah teaches us about the power of light over darkness. The profound impact of a small act of kindness and goodness. Tonight, the crowd illuminated the darkness and warmed up the cold outdoors.”

Before the lighting of the menorah, Councillor Marilyn Ashton addressed the crowd, expressing the importance of Chanukah to the Jewish people and how proud Pinner was to host such an event.

One participant, who attended with their family, remarked: “The Chanukah event was thoroughly enjoyed by us all. My kids loved the fire show! We felt very proud of our heritage at this moment.”

Chanukah is one of the most celebrated festivals on the Jewish Calendar and is traditionally celebrated by the lighting of a menorah candelabra, eating foods fried in oil and events with family and friends.

The event was organised by Pinner Chabad with the very kind assistance of Harrow Council.
