SOLAR SOARS: St Albans netball team remain undefeated after eight matches

A St Albans netball team continue to from strength to strength as they finish the first half of the season undefeated.

Abbey Flyers Netball Nomads Club’s Solar team have triumphed on the court recently after netball as a whole was affected by the pandemic.

At the halfway point of the season, the team are in fantastic position and hoping that they will qualify for the regionals by the end of the season next year.

Speaking to StAlbansNews about the team’s success, Karen Stubbs, Solar team coach, said that the dedication witnessed throughout lockdown and beyond.

She said: “Netball was the sport that was really badly hit by restrictions and where football and other sports were going back, Netball was badly affected.

“We did a lot of Zoom training and the team were great and kept with it, their commitment is excellent and they very rarely miss a game.

“We’ve been working really hard on mental strength and mental health so it’s really nice to get back to training again.”

Karen continued to add that Solar are in a good position in the league ahead of returning to matches at the start of next year.

She said: “We’ve won all of our eight games so we just need to repeat that in January when we play all the teams again but we’ve given ourselves a good cushion and got ourselves in a good position.

The club which was set up 14 years ago has continued to grow and now has over 250 members and around 20 teams.

Anyone can join the club with trails held for spots on the senior teams.
