A trio from Three Rivers Museum have each been honoured with a Silver Owl award, offered to museum volunteers who have contributed more than 25 years of voluntary service.
Two of the three loyal recipients are husband and wife duo Joyce and Tony Gower. Tony guided the museum through various stages of its development, while Joyce was heavily involved in setting up and managing its collection of objects. Both continue as stewards, greeting and helping visitors.
Meanwhile, Les Mead was at the very first meeting for the museum, has been a board member ever since, and is still vice chairman. Alongside his wife, Carol, Les is also a steward.
The awards are somewhat overdue, as all three volunteers have contributed 35 years of work.
While presenting the awards, museum chairman Fabian Hiscock said: “Everyone involved in our little museum does really great work, but the contributions of Joyce, Tony and Les for over 35 years really stand out. Each of them has done work crucial to getting the museum to where it is today. We certainly wouldn’t be here without them!”
