SIGN OFF: Estate agent installs sign on listed property in Bushey not for sale

Published on: 28th February 2025   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Uncategorized

Watching a ‘for sale’ sign go up on your home can be a great moment – but not when your house isn’t on the market.

A Bushey resident was concerned when they saw an estate agent had put a ‘for sale’ sign on their listed property on Sparrows Herne.

Although the sign was secured to Berni Parmer’s fence, the property for sale was actually located down an alleyway at the side of her house.

Estate agents Your Move told Berni that someone would remove the sign, but no one turned up.

The sign has caused many issues for Berni and her family, including people knocking on their door enquiring after their home and other companies using the fence for signage.

In one scary moment, someone climbed into their back garden while they were out, likely believing the house was empty.

Speaking to BUSHEYnews, Berni shared: “They screwed it into our fence without our permission. If we take down the pole and there is any damage, it is our fault.

“Every time I see it’s still there, I am annoyed, but it is not just us. It seems to be happening all over Bushey.

“Someone I know took it down themselves and delivered it back to the estate agents – I don’t think I am that brave.”

While Berni and her husband phoned and emailed the company concerned, the sign remained in place 18 months later.

Now, thanks to the intervention of BUSHEYnews, the sign has finally been removed.

After a reporter reached out, Your Move were quick to remove the sign. They explained that the incident was “an oversight”.

Berni added: “Thanks so much again for your help, without which I feel it would have been at least another two years. Although I might have taken it down myself before then!”
