SHOCK EXIT: Bushey councillor turns independent as ‘politics becomes too tribal’

Published on: 30th April 2025   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A former Liberal Democrat councillor has announced he is now sitting as an independent.

Councillor Marc Amron announced his decision at a Hertsmere Borough Council meeting on Wednesday, March 26.

Speaking to BUSHEYnews, cllr Amron said: “When politics becomes too tribal, it can lead to more focus on party rivalry than on actual solutions for the community.”

Cllr Amron has assured that he wants to “continue to do the right thing for Bushey residents”.

In particular, he has outlined the importance of protecting the green belt to “maintain its identity and the quality of life for residents”.

Councillor Paul Richards, group leader of Hertsmere Lib Dems, said: “Cllr Amron has not yet set out his reasons for leaving the group. So we remain puzzled by his actions in the last few weeks. For me to comment further would involve speculation and guesswork.

“Residents of Bushey Park ward will not be affected by this change. Lib Dem ward councillors Maxie Allen and Shailain Shah will continue to tackle every piece of casework.”
