Emily Thornberry was determined to make it to Watford Labour Party’s annual fund raising Gala Dinner at Jurys Inn in Clarendon Road on Friday night.
Emily battled through snow storms, train cancellations, Euston Station evacuation and eventually arrived on the trusted Metropolitan Line.
She joked, “If ever there was a need for the Metropolitan Line Extension it was tonight. Thanks to some lovely Watford residents I was able to get a lift to the hotel in driving snow but a town centre station is what you need” She continued, “I was very disappointed to read that the Metropolitan Line project has stalled.
It’s unreasonable to expect the Mayor of London to carry all the risk for this project when the Tory Government has cut all of TFL’s £700 million grant. This is a major national infrastructure project and the Government should take responsibility for building it.”
The Shadow Foreign Secretary lashed Theresa May’s record on Brexit saying, “The Prime minister is only interested in addressing divisions in the Conservative Party, not in doing the right thing for Britain. We are heading for a disastrous Brexit under her leadership.
Labour supports the UK remaining in a customs union with the EU to ensure frictionless trade and protect thousands of jobs in place like Watford. Yet Theresa May is prepared to see the M2 motorway become a huge lorry park and to jeopardise the Good Friday agreement in Ireland with a hard border.
I hope it won’t be long before there is a General Election and Labour can take over these negotiations in Britain’s interests.”
